Again, there are readings sometimes throughout the day, but then not. So I’m not sure what is going on here.

-9999 is not an actual reading from the sensor, it’s what the Mayfly stores as the value when it doesn’t actually get a valid number from the sensor. You’d see the same thing is no sensor was attached to the Mayfly at all. What is the MMW station name or URL?

Hello,
We installed the new v.1.1 boards with a CTD sensor and also added the Clarivue Turbidity sensor. On the MMW platform it shows the turbidity sensor as reporting with a green background for the graph display, but the readings show as -9999.99 (which usually means its an error). Though when a large rainstorm comes through, it does report…[Read more]

Curious sensor failures and cyclical measurements
We have a station with HYDROS-21 and Turner Turbidity+ sensors. Beginning on 12/30/22 the HYDROS appears to have quit communicating, reporting only values of -9999 for all its variables. Near the same time, the Turner began reporting values with a daily cyclical pattern: higher in midday, and…[Read more]

Well, I’m back at my desk, with a Mayfly and powered it up, and I’m posting to
Host: monitormywatershed.org
and getting
— Response Code — 301 waited 326 mS Timeout 8000
If I change it to

Thanks for the input, Dan@wachusett. I think I figured out my problem – it was the bubbles in the stream as you can see in the attached photo when I was co-locating two sensors! I moved the sensor probe about a foot to calmer waters and now the results look normal.

Jim,
I have seen similar fluctuations in some of the streams where I have Hydros21 sensors. Typically, step changes > 100 µS in 5 or 15 minutes only occur during runoff/snowmelt events. In the winter, after a snow event with road salt application and subsequent melt I have seen > 2,000 µS fluctuations in 15 minutes as the salt pulses work their w…[Read more]

Hello,
I am looking for some help troubleshooting modbus communications on a Keller CTD sensor. I am running the very basic KellerTest sketch on a Mayfly 0.5b board with a RS-485 half shield adapter board. I turned on debugging to get some extra information.

I have a Mayfly sensor station on a small perennial trib to Marsh Creek. I was noticing step changes in the EC of over 100µS in the 5 minute sampling interval. Suspecting that this was a defective sensor so I co-located another sensor and got a similar result and the two EC readings were uncorrelated. Therefor I put both sensors in a filled bu…[Read more]
