The other side of failure is looking at how to design for system stability.
Some components may appear to fail, like modems. However the software of course needs to be robust enough to handle network conditions.
A way of thinking about it is the “7 Layer OSI stack” and transmission reliability is attributed to Network Layer, or layer 3 htt…[Read more]

thanks for your reply! Would you mind sharing how you got the sensors delivered to you if you’re based outside of the US (I’m assuming this might be useful for other people too)? I’ll start a new thread to share more about what I’d like to do with the mayflies so we can discuss more–I’m also curious to hear how you’ve been using them!

@sofija I am using mayflies for my PhD research as well. I’m really interested to hear what you are doing with them, and can also provide some advice on how to get equipment.

The correct part number for U9 is bq24074, as shown in the red text at the top of the schematic symbol. Apparently the device properties in the Eagle library that I got from Adafruit two years ago for that component have an incorrect value printed below the symbol diagram on the schematic file only, but the BOM produced from that schematic file,…[Read more]

I don’t have a ton of experience reading schematics, so I could be in error here. But FYI, it appears there may be an inconsistency in the v1.1 rev A schematic regarding the part number of the LiIon Charger chip. Please see attached screenshot. (Also understanding that these things are a moving target as chip availability changes.)

@sofija if you start a topic, perhaps describing what sensors you think you want, and some of the sensing goals, then it would be easier to provide some insights. My first board I used was from a Dutch company, the hardware availability isn’t a good place to discuss this. It could be in https://www.envirodiy.org/forum/infrastructure-and-equipment/

Hello, I would like to use Mayfly for my PhD research but I’m based in the UK–have you had any experience with people successfully deploying Mayfly in other countries? I know you don’t sell them outside of the US, but I would appreciate any pointers on where to start getting information on what it would take to transport them to Europe once they a…[Read more]

Much like some of the other issues with similar initial connection problems….I re-started the Serial Monitor enough times that it eventually worked! For the record, U.S. Cellular no longer piggy backs off Verizon, so we’re not concerned that we might accidently float into a Verizon tower.
