When we scout an area for a potential CTD sensor installation, one of the top deciding factors is whether that portion of the stream will freeze during extremely cold weather. Almost all of our sensors are mounted in deep, continuously flowing water. Most of the time our streams won’t freeze at all in the area around the sensor, or if they do…[Read more]

If you have the original sketch that someone wrote for the logger, then that should give you clues of how everything should be connected. There are several different ways in which to connect a tipping bucket to a Mayfly logger, some require a circuit in between to do the actual counting (like the Trinket or an ATtiny), but we’ve had good luck…[Read more]

We’ve been using Y-511a sensors together with Gen 2 Hydros21 CTD sensors and have had no problems with communication, however we’re using our own modbus adapter (based on a MAX13412 chip) instead of the Neil’s modbus wing. As Sara said, the sensors shouldn’t be talking the the Mayfly at the same time since the Y-511 has a 40-second warmup time,…[Read more]

Thank you for your help. I’ve ordered a ProTrinket. Basically, I am trying to recreate what the rain logger did before it died. Log date, time and a tip, convert the tip to inches and have a running total per rain event. Ultimately, be able to retrieve the data remotely. We have three broken loggers (very old) and one that is still functioning. We…[Read more]

The ModularSensors library is running the SDI-12 sensors in “concurrent” mode and the modbus communication only happens when initiated by the logger. So the two sensors really should not be trying to talk to the logger at the same time. ModularSensors first asks each sensor to start taking a reading, then goes back and asks each one for its r…[Read more]

Hi everyone,
This problem has been causing me trouble for nearly a year, but it has become unworkable with installation of Gen2 Meter CTD sensors.
My problem: Meter CTD (SDI12) and Yosemitech 511-a Turbidity (MODBUS) sensors seem to interfere with each other causing the CTD to sporadically drop out return -9999 values. This only occurred at some…[Read more]

Hello Mary, gosh you may have to provide more detail of what you are thinking you are doing. The tipping bucket is typically a pulse count – it needs to translate the mechanical tipping bucket to an electronic pulse. So you may want to reference this in more detail.
There is this , never tried it . .. https://github.com/EnviroDIY/TippingBucketRainCounter

Hi Cal, great to hear you’ve got your problem solved.
Believe me that is part of the process, learning how the libs go together. They can be amazing to pull in, – but its part of the programming paradigm of how to reference and track them.
Sometimes better to post a new thread when asking a question, and for programming its getting the focus…[Read more]

Thanks for the reply Neil. The only reason I picked this thread to post was it started with a title “library can’t be found”. That’s been one of my problems. Let me know if there is a better place to post.
Here’s a compile problem that I’m working on now: ….librariesModularSensorssrcsensorsApogeeSQ212.cpp:84:17: error: ‘class Ada…[Read more]

Hi Cal, its good if you could include the compile errors, even perhaps as an attachment. In your current form you are making anybody wanting to help do a lot more work.
As you are posting in this old thread on Yosemite-library I’m guessing its something to do with that.
I had a similar problem with Yosemitech Lib described here-…[Read more]
