Dale Drummond started the topic Mayfly with LoRA module physical connection in the forum Mayfly Data Logger 4 years, 3 months ago
Hello,
I am working on a project that is trying to use the Semtech SX1272MB2DAS Shield LoRa transceiver for connectivity back to a Cisco LoRAWAN gateway. I was successful in getting the HYDROS-21 sensor reporting data correctly via the Mayfly serial port and writing to the SD card but I am having difficulty finding out how to physically connect…[Read more]

They were in stock and available for a few weeks, but I guess they’re popular again. We’ve been offering the protoshield for several years, but demand for these tends to fluctuate more than any of the other things we offer, so it’s difficult to predict.
A tip for finding our items on Amazon: only in-stock items can be found using the Amazon…[Read more]

I checked Amazon and finally discovered that “envirodiy mayfly protoshield” works for a search. Did not have envirodiy in my search query.
I just bought the last one so guess time to restock

It sounds like the sensor isn’t getting power. Do you know which sensor wire you had plugged into the Vcc jack on the screw terminal board? Do you have a voltmeter (multimeter) that you could put on the Vcc line to measure the output voltage of the Mayfly’s 5v switch boost circuitry when the sensor is supposed to be powered for a sample? It’s…[Read more]

It turns out that I had had wires of the OBS3+ in the wrong screw terminals. Rewiring the high and low turbidity readings within a reasonable range. The problem now is that the sensor is not reading accurately. High turbidity always reads about 3 NTU and low turbidity always reads about 1 NTU. I have measured with two handheald turbidity meters…[Read more]

I believe the sensor stop reporting normal values exactly when I restarted the board. I’ll have to check to make sure the sensor connector has a good connection. I believe we’re using the Grove stereo jack adapter board. (I didn’t assemble or program it. I am maintaining it.) I’ve attached a photo of the board. We do not have a celular board…[Read more]

Pressing the rest button only makes the logger code restart, the same as if you turned the power switch off and then back on, so it shouldn’t cause the sensor to stop working. Did the sensor stop reporting normal values exactly when you restarted the board? Did you accidently bump the sensor connector inside your enclosure and cause a bad…[Read more]

Ok, then the battery and charging system is working properly. I was under the false impression that the charging light was supposed to be lit constantly. However, I did make the mistake of hitting the reset button and now I’m not getting readings from the sensor in the stream. I’m only getting the battery level and the board temperature. The…[Read more]

The yellow LED on the Mayfly board indicates when the battery is actively being charged. If the battery is fully charged, then the yellow LED will be off. What does the data card file say the battery voltage was when you experienced the issue of the yellow LED not being lit? The Red and Green LEDs near the battery jack are programmed to blink…[Read more]

Hello,
We installed a Mayfly Data Logger on Sept 10, 2020. We are using the manual downloading method of retrieving data and I’ve done so three times as of now. When I opened the box to swap out the cards yesterday (the third time), I noticed the battery charging indicator light was not blinking. I checked all of the connections and cleaned off…[Read more]

I can confirm Sara’s idea to wait before the marking and not during seems to be more reliable, I had an issue where (rarely) the sensors did not answer to a measurement request, this seems to fixed this.
It is hard to be 100% sure about this since it doesn’t happen often but it seems to be better this way, and since it is also SDI-12 spec…[Read more]

Is the small jumper on the Mayfly board next to the Aux Analog grove ports switched over to 5v from it’s default 3v position? Did you verify that all of the sensor wires are connected to the right ports on the 6-pin screw terminal board? Red wire to Vcc, White wire to D2, Blue wire to D1, and the other three wires (black, green, and clear) all…[Read more]

I have recently put two Mayflys with OBS3+ turbidity sensors out in the field and they are not reading correctly when confirmed with a handheld nephelometer. The low readout is reading too low and the high is reading too high. I’ve triple checked my code and the calibration curves are correct. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I…[Read more]

Shannon Hicks replied to the topic miniSD card slot in the forum Mayfly Data Logger 4 years, 4 months ago
That is an interesting part, but I agree that the most dangerous thing about using it is the possibility of having the metal part of the holder (which is connected to the negative or ground side of the board power rail) contacting something inside the Mayfly case and shorting things out.
We’re planning to offer a 5-pack of just the vertical…[Read more]

I just thought I would add this option to the forum in case someone else has the same issue because I recently broke the vertical adapter that came with one of my kits.
I found this solution on Amazon:

I sent more protoshields to Amazon earlier this week, so they should be available as soon as Amazon processes the incoming shipment.
