Hi James, thanks for the agupubs reference – very nice to see the LiDar work.
I had talked to a LiDar guy some years ago and they had said they didn’t think it would work for streams, but that ref is showing it very nicely.I’ve used 20mA depth sensors with Onset loggers, and had a couple of UL6a…[Read more]

It was a good day for brown trout in the Manistee River. The hot July weather in northern Michigan had pushed the water temperature up into the low 70s. That pushed oxygen levels down, so the trout needed to stay […]

Hi guys,
I am looking for low-cost methods to measure stage in rivers and streams, and was wondering if anyone has had any success? Neil’s transducers look great, but are too expensive for our needs. The goal is to develop a rating curve and use it to calculate loads.
Has anyone had any success with cheap pressure transducers available on A…[Read more]

scornia,
I was having the same problem with the address change sketch (using the Atom PlatforIO) so I tried using Arduino IDE and that worked. It saw the SDI-12 address of 0 at pin 7 and I successfully changed it to 1 and now I’m getting values from the Meter CTD-10. Good luck. Let me know if you have any questions.

Okay, here is what I see …
Note: I am no expert but having an extra set of eyes helps sometimes.
I set up a dummy site and tried to replicate what I saw in your files. You can have a look at the site to compare it to what you have set up and let me know if it seems different. I will leave it up for a bit but it will be removed if we have…[Read more]

I’ve attached two of my files from earlier today. The file with 08-20 is the raw data file created yesterday right from the Mayfly, and the 08-21 is the upload file created today as I described earlier. I have been unable to upload the 08-21 file as of now. I tried three times earlier this morning and twice this afternoon. The third file, 08-…[Read more]

Remote programming a datalogger has never been a priority for the type of deployments we usually do, because our monitoring stations require frequent maintenance visits to clean the sensors or perform other tasks at the station. The most common reason for reprogramming a board would be if you’re adding or removing a sensor, or recalibrating one,…[Read more]

Interesting idea for a secondary board, perhaps linked into the USB. I have heard it done before via the JTAG, but I don’t believe this is available for Mayfly.
Possibly the biggest question on issues like this is power budget. If there was a reliable power budget for a linux SBC (beaglebone.org) it would be relatively easy. One area to track…[Read more]

That would be awesome, as the ability to re-program and trouble shoot would be beneficial.
Since the boards were not designed to have that capability, do you think it would be impossible to attempt to develop a way to add in a secondary board with a cellular modem that would act as the receiver and uploader for programming remotely? I have come…[Read more]

I don’t know of anyone successfully programming a Mayfly board remotely. We didn’t design the board with that capability in mind, but we’re investigating that option for future board versions.

Thanks for the photo. The screw terminal pic looks fine, on pic of the Mayfly, it’s hard to see the jumper pins for the D6-D7 grove jack, but can you verify that there is a jumper (shunt) on the pins as seen in this photo.

Hello,
I am curious if any developments have been made on creating a way of programming the MayFly data logger remotely, without having to go out to the site to physically re-program? I am new to the MayFly data logger, so I apologize if this has already been developed or already has the capability, but to my knowledge and research it does not. I…[Read more]

Can you post a picture of your sensor wiring showing how it’s connected to the terminal board and also a photo showing how it’s connected to the Mayfly? Did you make any changes at all to the address changing sketch? I’ve personally used almost 500 sensors (CTD, soil moisture, conductivity, etc) from Meter group and have never had a bad one right…[Read more]

Hi Neil,
We are looking at developing a network of Mayfly stations for characterizing a catchment, with three tiers of sensor quality. The top tier (~10% of stations) would have top-standard sensors, and would be used to calculate loads at the bottom of the catchment, or investigate interesting signatures at certain sites. The middle tier (…[Read more]
