As Sara suggested, the issue is probably related to the SDI-12 address of the sensor. Meter Group ships all of their sensors with a default SDI-12 address of “0” (zero). They do this because it’s the channel their sensors need to be programmed to for working with their own brand of dataloggers. But Meter group sensors don’t respond to SDI-12…[Read more]

Are you sure you’re SDI-12 address is set correctly? You can use this program to check/change it: https://github.com/EnviroDIY/ModularSensors/blob/master/tools/sdi12_address_change/sdi12_address_change.ino

Letsid started the topic Hydros 21/Decagon CTD: reading error in the forum Environmental Sensors 4 years, 5 months ago
This being our first year implementing our EnviroDIY unit, we are trying to keep it simple and are only using one sensor: the Hydros 21 (which, if I am not mistaken, is also known as the Decagon CTD). Since it is so simple, compared to other units, I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I cannot seem to get any readings from the sensor. Each t…[Read more]

Wanted to send an update: the XBee is now connecting to the internet in a timely manner! I saved the testing code for my future units. Thanks again!

I’m looking for another solution for connecting bare wire sensors to the Mayfly. Seems like the common approaches are using a screw terminal to Grove adapter and a Grove cable, or cutting a Grove cable and splicing it to the sensor wires.
Finding 2 pin JST-PH plugs and pins is easy, and allows for custom solar and battery wiring, but I’ve only…[Read more]

OK, thanks Sara. I really like the look and layout of the new Doxygen docs. Thanks for all your efforts!

Sara Damiano replied to the topic Low Cost EC sensor Station upgrade in the forum Mayfly Data Logger 4 years, 5 months ago
The access is denied error doesn’t mean the Mayfly is off, it means something else (another program or window on your computer) is monopolizing that serial port. Usually you see it when you try to upload a program or start a serial port monitor when another serial port monitor was already running.
If you have the Mayfly plugged directly into the…[Read more]

Thanks. I am using the FTDI port and wiggled some plugs, etc and now is loading ok. I assume when I was getting that error the mayfly was plugged in and turned on because when I attempt to load with the pwr switch turned off I get the following e…[Read more]

Is your Mayfly turned on and plugged in? That error means your Mayfly isn’t being detected.

Hi Sara @srgdamiano
I haven’t used PIO for several months but in preparation for the transition from 2G to 4G I launched PIO this week and it apparently did an upgrade and now my code won’t load.
I get the following error:
avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 10 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x00
PIO is currently core 4.3.4 and home 3.2.3
An…[Read more]

Follow the datasheet. If the docs for ModularSensors disagree they’re probably outdated or just wrong. I’m s..l..o..w..l..y.. working through the documentation and transferring to a Doxygen based documentation set here: https://envirodiy.github.io/ModularSensors/getting_started.html. But I’ll add this to my list of bits to fix.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but it is exactly on-topic for my situation.
I’m confused about wiring the MaxTemp. The ModularSensors documentation says to connect the red wire from MaxTemp to the MaxSonar’s pin 6 (V+). However, the MaxBotix datasheet shows no connection of the MaxTemp to V+. Likewise, @fisherba Beth’s photo above…[Read more]

Hey All, we found an issue that cropped up in late June on the database server for Monitor My Watershed. We’ll be doing a planned maintenance shutdown today at around 12:30 ET to fix the issue, and it will likely take about an hour. We’ll let you know when it is back up and running.

Sara Damiano replied to the topic XBee and Hologram LTE: issues connecting to internet in the forum Mayfly Data Logger 4 years, 5 months ago
Wahoo, that’s connected! *Usually* after you’ve made a few connections it connects more quickly the next time, but signal quality of -81 isn’t stellar, so it might still be somewhat slow. Are you testing at where you’re going to deploy? If so, you might want to take some time fiddling with just the right arrangement of the antenna and other wi…[Read more]

Got it! So this time I left it long enough to connect (or I think it is connecting). Attached are snips of the monitor. It repeats for quite a while and then right at the end it changes. So, pictures 3 & 4 are almost consecutive.

You can try adding a network scan before the “waiting for network registration” section. It won’t help you connect, but it should show what networks have signal.
// Scan for networks - this is probably really slow gsmModem.sendAT(GF("AS")); gsmModem.waitResponse(180000L, GF("S"), GF("ERROR")); while (Serial1.available()) {…

But it seems like you might have kind-of low signal, if that -93 is valid. Does anyone around have an AT&T cellphone? Do they have ok signal?
Hologram doesn’t work on Verizon. Sometimes they say the do, and for a while we actually got it to work, but usually it’s only AT&T.
