(I am placing this comment here rather than start a new topic because of similarities)
We have two stations that developed the same problem in August of 2023. One station is here: https://monitormywatershed.org/sites/GVWA%20107/
Both were V1.0 Mayfly with the LTE Bee, Hydros21 CTD and Yosemitech 511-a Turbidity sensors with the Modbus-Mafly-Wing…[Read more]

Thanks Shannon. I did swap the battery when I swapped the logger. I am using the matte finish panel. Also, I went to the EnviroDIY knowledge base parts list and clicked the link for the panel there. The link sends me to the old panel on Adafruit rather than the new panel we are using.
I believe everything is plugged in to the correct ports on the…[Read more]

Matt Thanks for posting. I’m away from my computer till next week, so I’ll be interested to look when I get back.
Seems like SpokaneRiver-Peaceful has good solar, and the battery never gets low. -

There should be little adjustment screws or stops that allow you to calibrate the sensor to tip at exactly one millimeter of rainfall (which is 5.0 ml of water). Did you try adjusting them and doing the calibration procedure before deployment? You also have to ensure that the sensor is installed completely level and that it is mounted to a f…[Read more]

It is ECRN-50 by Meter Group. There is “spoon” stuck in lower position in the picture.

Can you share the model number and manufacturer of the rain gage, or attach a picture of it that shows the tipping mechanism?

It sounds like things aren’t connected to the Mayfly board properly. The 3.7v Lipo battery gets connected to only one of the JST jacks labeled LIPO BATT on the Mayfly board, then a 6v solar panel gets connected to only one of the jacks labeled either SOLAR1 or SOLAR2, and not both. Are you using one of the old style glossy 3.5w panels, or one o…[Read more]

I wrote the same code for all of the Spokane stations. Compare the battery behavior for SpokaneR-SpokaneValley (poor) to that of SpokaneRiver-Peaceful (good), despite running the same code.
I’ll attach the code for both stations.

I’m connecting to the internet with the LTE Bee module and using the ArduinoHttpClient library to download a configuration file for my logger. The download works fine exactly once. After the first download, it seems like the LTE module “resets” in the sense that prior to the second download reading the signal strength returns 0% and the modem no…[Read more]

@oakleynode wow interesting you are looking at RSSI and it has a lot of variation. I haven’t characterized the RSSI result for a high percentage of failing calls.
Another system that is also on the edge, and I added a new antenna that improved it, the reading is -81dBm https://monitormywatershed.org/sites/TUCA_Mi06/
The modem is a Digi…[Read more]

Hello, I have issues with particular rain gauge. Hopefuly someone has already encountered something like this.
The rain gauge is mechanical “tipping” one, but it does not have two containers for water / two stable states.
It has just one “spoon” which collects water and once it is full it should tip and empty itself and return to default state…[Read more]

I have a station that was recently deployed that cannot maintain sufficient battery voltage. The strange thing is that the voltage drops over one 15 minute increment, rather than gradually over time. Voltage consistently is dropping from the low 4V to the low 3V between successive measurements. Then, at times, the voltage with jump back up to the…[Read more]

@neilh20 – thanks for your very detailed post and information!!
I hadn’t really considered the relationship between connectivity and packet size. I do have some issues at some of my sites with connectivity but always thought about it in terms of local interference. About half of my sites are buoys and someone has suggested to me that the ground…[Read more]

Shannon, thank you. I will keep it at 500 mA, while increasing the solar panel wattage to provide more hours of charging at 500 mA.

The very bottom-left corner of the schematic for board v1.1 mentions the two charge rates, which you can control using solder jumper SJ15. Here’s the description of that jumper from the Jumper Settings page:
SJ15: Lipo battery charge rate: 500mA (default) or 1A. This jumper allows you to select the maximum charger output current of the onb…[Read more]

Hi,
What is the maximum recommended amps from a 6 volt solar panel to the V 1.1 board? Is this different for previous boards? There are two solar inputs–are these the same input but different connectors?
Thanks

I’m seeing a gap in data downloaded from the MMW database – about 5 days worth of lost readings.
It seems to be across all my devices. I spot checked a couple of other devices, and they also seem to be missing.
I noted it here but it hasn’t got a response https://github.com/ODM2/ODM2DataSharingPortal/issues/685
The lost data initially came up…[Read more]

@oakleynode something to note is that the MMW/ODM2 packet design with UUIDs make an extra heavy packet. The packet design is not optimally designed for wireless conditions, the thingspeak packets are much lighter. If your site is on the edge of the wireless range, which varies a lot of with weather conditions, its going to have more trouble with…[Read more]
