Are you referring to an EnviroDIY Monitoring Station kit which contains a Mayfly Data Logger, or is your station based on some other type of controller? And are talking about limiting the amount of current your monitoring kit could draw from a power source, or are you talking about limiting the output current of the kit in regards to the load…[Read more]

We are looking at adding an external circuit breaker to protect a monitoring kit. We are configuring a monitoring kit to be a mobile or portable unit, that can be carried aboard a ship/boat of opportunity. Often in the field on a boat or in some weather, equipment gets wet.
What level of current should an external breaker be rated to prevent…[Read more]

A few of the folders in “ModularSensors_Dependencies_v.0.35.0.zip” are named with blank spaces or with longer names, if you go into any of the folders with spaces, copy the name of the .h file and rename the folder to that name, it works.

Hi Shannon,
Thanks for the quick reply. Since we’re installing these stations right at the edge of the salt marsh/forest, I think we’ll have sufficient light to power the modem + Hydros 21.
Appreciate it,
Elliot

There’s nothing electrically wrong with having all 4 resistors populated on that board, but only one pair will be used for your sensor analog input, and the other pair will not be connected to anything and will therefore not be performing any function.

Since I am only using one C-FLOUR sensor, does having two pair of soldered resistors affect anything or should I redo the screw terminal board to only have one pair of resistors?
Thank you for the tip on needing two separate screw terminal boards because each C-FLOUR needing 2 ground terminals each.

If you only have one C-FLUOR sensor, then you only need one pair of resistors, since there’s only one analog signal from the sensor. There ARE two ground wires, which is why I asked how many sensors you were using with this one screw terminal board. In order to connect two Turner analog sensors to a Mayfly Logger, it’s good to use 2 separate s…[Read more]

If your station is in an open location that gets several hours of direct sunlight every day, then a 2W panel is probably sufficient if you have a cellular modem on your station. The 2W panel is definitely sufficient if it’s just a Hyrdos21 sensor and no telemetry. But if your station is under tree canopy or is mostly shaded, the P105 model 5W p…[Read more]

I was getting the same error message as the poster above, so I went ahead and followed the instructions that Shannon provided to fix it (2025-01-22 at 2:07 PM), but now I am getting this error message that I attached. That is one of 10ish errors that I am getting.
When checking out the libraries folder, everything seems in order.
The previous…[Read more]

Hi,
I bought the 6V 2 W ETFE solar panels from Voltaic to replace some 6 V 2 W solar panels we lost for our Hydros 21 setup. When I got them in the mail, I realized they were about half the size of the previous solar panels. I can’t tell from the specifications if they’re a sufficient replacement, would they provide enough power to power the…[Read more]

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I’m just connecting one Turner phyco c-flour sensor.</p>
I assume these resistor pairs are independent and shouldn’t affect how a single sensor reports.

Are you trying to measure 2 analog signals from 2 separate sensors with just one 6-pin screw terminal board?

nick replied to the topic Continous HAB monitoring in the forum Mayfly Data Logger 2 months ago
Shannon, I went ahead and soldered four 10k resistors instead of the two I originally said, similar to what you did here:
Does that still work for my purposes or does it change things?
Thank you.

Shannon Hicks replied to the topic Logger not transmitting data to website in the forum Mayfly Data Logger 2 months ago
That happens occasionally when the connection between the Mayfly and the online time server gets terminated before the entire timestamp gets transmitted, resulting in an incomplete timestamp, and the Mayfly code has some smarts to check whether the timestamp it received is a valid, reasonable date. If you ever get this error, you can just…[Read more]

Hi Jake, no “pressure sensor” is going to be able to be linear/accurate if ice is forming and expanding in the protective enclosure round the pressure sensor. My guess is the whole sensor would have to be specially designed to allow for the ice expansion to even survive a freezing event.
My hypothesis (guess) would be that its the nearly…[Read more]

Thanks for your thoughts Neil.
These blips are occurring over the course of hours (roughly 4-6 hours from when depth starts dropping until it reaches it’s lowest point) though the time varies by occurrence.
They seem to be happening as temperature approaches the freezing point. I’ve attached a graph with temp for reference.

I wonder what the water temperature is, or if there are water temperature changes, when this is happening.
From the graph it reads the water level is at 20″ depth then on the 10th Feb it drops by up to 5″ for some time (hours?) before recovering, with 3 other similar but not us pronounced events
IF any for of ice could build up in a pressure…[Read more]

Hi All. We’ve been seeing some strange depth and conductivity trends at a few of our sites. Quick drops in depth over a short period of time with a quick bounceback. See attached screenshot example. This occurred on the same days at multiple sites on different streams, but in the same region. At one site, conductivity dropped a bit at the same…[Read more]
