Hello,
I’ve been working on getting a Mayfly working with an MTech mDot LoRa module. I cannot get any readable text back from the module even after trying all the different baud rates. Does anyone have this module working with their Mayfly? If so, can you share your sketch on the pin and board setup? I think I have everything configured…[Read more]

The current estimate is that we’ll receive a big shipment in about a month, so early August we’ll be able to restock the shop and Amazon. The worsening electronics supply shortage caused me to have to make some changes to the Mayfly design based on component availability, and that delayed the fabrication of new boards until we could fully test…[Read more]

The entire electronics industry is facing growing supply issues that started last year. I’ve been aware of the issue since early this year and started planning accordingly, so we shouldn’t have any supply issues with our custom EnviroDIY products. But industry experts and suppliers are saying that components and products from companies like D…[Read more]

Thanks Neil.
I contacted the NZ branch of SApply and they have around 40 in stock, but that’s it for a while. It sounds like it’s related to the issues that are plaguing the semiconductor supply chain at the moment.

https://www.digi.com/products/models/xb3-c-a2-ut-001 says only 19 available at https://www.sapply.com
I just received three from Arrow.com and they don’t have anymore stock.

Hi all,
It seems that there is now a global shortage on XBee-3 LTE’s. Does anyone know anywhere that has them in stock?
I contacted DIGI and they claimed a lead time of 52 weeks.

Just wondering if there is a date on Mayfly Availability. ?
https://www.envirodiy.org/product/envirodiy-mayfly-data-logger-pack-of-5/ says out of stock.
Much appreciate an approximate date, though I realize there is a world wide shortage of some components.

Thank you for the useful advice. I grounded the Mayfly to the 12v battery ground and voila! The RDO is reading perfectly. Never would have thought of that one so you saved me a ton of time. Thanks!!!!

I successfully used that sensor with a Mayfly v0.5 board with no problem. If you’re powering the sensor with a separate 12v battery, do the Mayfly and the 12v battery share a common ground? The white wire from the sensor is the SDI-12 data line, which should go to pin 7 , as you stated in Line 93. It’s fine to use a separate battery to pr…[Read more]

I’m using the code pulled from the menu_a_la_carte for the InSitu RDO PRO-X and Decagon ES2. I’m able to get values for the Decagon but the RDO returns -9999 values. I was able to communicate with the RDO using WinSitu software and change the SDI address to 5. I’m powering the RDO using a separate 12v battery. I’m pretty confident my connections…[Read more]

Hi @dan-wachusett – I’d be very interested to hear how your measurements work out.
This is what I did for acceptance testing (and characterizing) on a number of different types of depth sensors for a 2013 project – https://www.envirodiy.org/measuring-low-water-in-streams-accurately/
The update since then is the hydrologists I work with use the…[Read more]

Thanks Shannon, that is sound advice. We have 7 new Gen 2 Hydros-21 sensors and I will be delving in to this more later this summer. I do plan to test them in a controlled environment to make sure that the variation in output is within the accuracy range specified by the manufacturer.

Basically trying to control flow through an outlet of a bioswale. The algorithm for control is attached as a diagram (I have written this in python and campbell coding but yet to do in C++). I’ve attached the .ino file I’m playing around with as well. The decagon CTD sensor is connected to D4-5 and I’m trying to get a 0-5V signal out from D10-1…[Read more]

I’d have to see the rest of your sketch to know what you’re trying to accomplish with the 5v output. If you put the CTD sensor on the D4-5 jack, and move the jumper to constant 3.3v, then the SDI12 power pin part of the code doesn’t really matter, but that kind of stuff gets declared early in sketch, usually in the setup function. The bigger p…[Read more]

I changed the connections as you have suggested. I noticed that D22 gets activated when .logData() function is run. And because the data reading interval is controlled through .logData() I can’t seem to do much. When the CTD is connected to the D4-5 jack, do I still have to have SDI12Power set to 22 in the code below?
DecagonCTD…[Read more]

Shannon Hicks replied to the topic Hydros-21 Depth Temp Compensation in the forum Environmental Sensors 3 years, 4 months ago
The Hydros-21 sensor already does internal temperature compensation of the depth data, so you shouldn’t have to provide your own compensation. The sensor outputs the depth readings in millimeters of water above the sensor, so you don’t even have access to the raw pressure readings like you might with a basic pressure transducer, so you’d have to…[Read more]

I haven’t looked into it much, but I would guess that module, and several other bee-shaped LoRaWAN modules would work just fine with the Mayfly. There is *not* any direct support for any sort of radio communication right now in ModularSensors. I would love to have support for it, but still a “someday” feature right now. Right now most of our st…[Read more]

Thanks @fisherba… I will take a look at the updated sketch. It seems like this correction should be part of the device firmware, but perhaps it was modified at some point and not included. I may try to apply this correction to my previous data downloads and see if fixes the issue. If so, then will update the sketch on the mayfly to perform this…[Read more]
