faaaaantastic !!!
My data looks good from the May 12. Thankyou so much to everybody who has pulled that together.

Hi All,
Good news! We completed the fix to issue #3 “Sparkline” plots and CSV downloads not functioning.
As expected, most of the data that looked to be missing is now showing up in the “Sparkline” plots, in the data table views, and in the CSV downloads.
One disappointing discovery is that the #2 Networking (Domain Name System) issues laste…[Read more]

Hello Anthony, yes thanks for the clarification.
As an engineer, I am often asked is the solution more painful than the problem it is solving!
The problem breakdown, when looking through the eyes of hydrologists ; a) is the remote sensors working?, b) is the delivered data to the web reliable? either visually or downloaded c) how to back-up a…[Read more]

@mbarney & @neilh20, the CSV downloads are not an effective way of accessing data gaps, because that mechanism relies on the same corrupted catalog crosswalk that underlies the problem with the sparkline plots.
There are really only two ways for you to assess data gaps:
- Keep a record of server response codes from RESTful POST requests, from…

Hi James, as I understand it you are right – its difficult to get an accurate rating curve under such conditions. That is the geology. That is why there are hydrologists, and it takes having someone with experience to find if there is a geological place where a rating curve can be built. regards

@fisherba My March order has the stereo plug.

Hi Neil,
I’m pretty sure our methods align to that of USGS. However my concern is that the cross-sectional area will change with every large flow event due to the mobile bottom sediments, giving us a poor relationship between depth and flow. Our hydrology team has suggested that an accurate rating curve is very difficult to obtain in such…[Read more]

Just an update here. Katie from METER group thinks the GEN2 will be released within a matter of weeks. She is holding our payment and will send us a shipment of GEN2s when they are available.

Yes, I’ve read the website, and talked with the Meter Group engineers on many occasions. I think the wording on the simplified product brochure just isn’t written clearly. If you read the detailed Integrator’s Guide, you’ll see that it says this:
Differential pressure measurement referenced to atmospheric pressure so no external pressure s…[Read more]

Sounds like a manufacturing error to me. I’d suggest contacting Meter and tell them about it because I’ve never seen an unvented CTD from them and there’s no conceivable way it would work correctly without one.

The sensors the student ordered have the stereo plug and a red cable.
@neilh, we have a calculated temperature compensation in Modular Sensors if you ever need it. It’s extremely negligible in groundwater temp ranges.
@mbarney, the Meter discrepancy is a bit annoying. Was your March order a bare wire or stereo plug?

Yes, the pressure transducer on the Gen 2 sensors seems to be temperature compensated just like it was on the Gen 1 sensor. They also use the temperature sensor for calculating the specific conductivity readings. I wasn’t going to mention that I have one since they sent it to me ahead of release for testing so we could make sure our Modular S…[Read more]

neilh20 replied to the topic Question for Hydrologists – Soft bottom streams in the forum Miscellaneous 3 years, 5 months ago
Hi James, yes there is the challenge. My take way from the report was that providing its exceeding 1cfs or 0.028m3/sec it can be done fairly accurately with traditionally USGS methods – which sounds like you are well in that range. For environmentally significant flows in drought California we are often looking at less than 1cf…[Read more]

Matt, they haven’t begun selling the Generation 2 CTD sensor yet, so what you have is a Gen 1 sensor with the new cable on it. And we always order our sensors without the metal strain relief since we always end up cutting them off anyway, so you can specify that when you place your order.

James_NZ replied to the topic Question for Hydrologists – Soft bottom streams in the forum Miscellaneous 3 years, 5 months ago
Thanks Neil. I have had a skim through the attached document but the flows we are dealing with are in the order of 2-3 m3/sec during baseflow. We also have another concern because there is sediment clearance in the lower reaches on an annual basis, which again will impact the rating curve.
I think I will have to look for fixed structures, i…[Read more]
