Thanks @shicks, great to know. Would you recommend that I push back on them for Gen-2 sensors, even if they take a bit longer to get here? It seems silly to rush things through and end up with an inferior sensor.

We recently received a Gen 2 Hyrdos 21 CTD sensor from Meter Group and have confirmed that it works just fine with the Mayfly Data Logger, and using our Modular Sensors library, with just a very small adjustment made to the library. We’re in the process of updating that now, so you should be good to order them and use them when they arrive.

Hi @dan-wachusett. I am about to order 10 x Hydros 21 units from METER Group. I assume they will be Gen 2 (cost $511 USD each).
Is someone working on the modular sensors library? Any idea how long it will be before the Gen 2 can be used?

Matt,
Sorry for the delayed response. You probably have the Gen 1 Hydros 21 sensor since the Gen 2 is brand new and I think I may have been the first one to get it. In fact, I can’t even use it yet because the ModularSensors library needs to be updated to handle some of the updates to the communications protocols. My Gen 2 has a black cable and…[Read more]

Another question worth pondering is whether brushed sensors are desirable over un-brushed sensors in lotic environments? Perhaps the difference in performance is more apparent in lentic systems where fouling is more likely to occur?
Has anyone compared the performance of brushed vs un-brushed sensors?

Monitor My Watershed is still down and not showing stations on the main page when you click “Browse Sites”. The data team is still working on repairing the site. But don’t worry, data is still being collected and all of it is available if you know the site code for the station you’re interested in. For users that have their own sites or are f…[Read more]

Hi,
I am trying to decide between a Yosemitech 511-A turbidity sensor with brush, or a 510-B brushless sensor.
I have read that there have been some issues with setting the interval time for the 511 brush with a typical wingshield with 9v polou step up. I see that Anthony had some success with a wiring harness and a boost converter module. Can…[Read more]

Hello James, yes I have a few that are working, that’s the way that they have been working up to now. I would think you’d want to test to your 10 ASAP. For me the devices that did not work, they just they didn’t work. So for testing its they either work or not. As an electrical engineer I did do an analysis and laid out what I had done…[Read more]

Hi Neil,
I have read through the link above and everything is making a lot more sense. I think your effort in designing a new modbus wingboard is amazing!
However, I am in two minds given my current situation which requires deployment of 10 Mayfly stations within the next 3 months. Obviously waiting for your wingboard is the more reliable o…[Read more]

In a nutshell, the low cost RS484 hybrid often doesn’t work. Technically the QA of the workmanship is untracked.

Hi Neil,
I’m looking to deploy a network of Yosemitech turbidity sensors (Y511-A) and for this I will need modbus wingshields. Can you explain what the issue with the current wingshield build is? I have read a conversation about the polou 9v step up regulator not being able to activate the 511-A brush, but I’m not aware of other problems. I’m…[Read more]

Yes, it’s been down most of the day. The MMW data team is working on it.

Anyone else experiencing issues with MMW ?
When I go to “Browse Sites”, the map is displayed but no markers for the individual sites.

While it doesn’t use the Mayfly, I was inspired by the work done by the OpenCTD team. It’s nice to see projects that guide the user through the process (like EnviroDIY).

I’m working on a new Modbus wingboard and will be building and testing a small production prototype on Monday, and then looking to do initiate a small production run of it shortly thereafter, probably Tuesday.
This is personal initiative, and doesn’t have any institutional backing – I am using the excellent forum for discussion about – but if…[Read more]

My test06 system froze for a 2nd time. This time I pressed the User Button, which is also tied to an interrupt, and started up again. I have made some updates described here. https://github.com/neilh10/ModularSensors/issues/34

An update to my stability testing, this partly makes me collect the dates and status.
A test system “tu_rc_EC” standalone EC “Stream Disconnect” monitor built on 0.25.0 has been running since the beginning of Oct very well. I plan on describing this and haven’t done so yet.
