In the beginning, there were transistors, rudimentary environmental sensors housed in wooden boxes, and pencil and paper for recording data. Today, we program microcontrollers and make our own environmental […]

The new LTEbee adapter boards were finally delivered yesterday, I listed them in stock on the Shop page this morning. Most of the people who have been looking to purchase them have already placed their orders. But for anyone else interested in them, they are back in stock. I also added the protoshields to the EnviroDIY shop, they were pr…[Read more]

If the Mayfly board still works when powered from a battery, then there’s a couple of possibilities of why the computer might not see it. One is that the main power slide switch is defective, since that switch does 2 things – one pole is to provide power to the regulator that powers the whole board, the other pole is to provide power to the FTDI…[Read more]

The LTEbee adapters have been stuck in shipping transit for over 2 weeks, and then there were customs processing delays. They been scheduled for delivery for the past few days but then get rescheduled. Supposedly they’ll be delivered tomorrow (Monday) and I’ll list them as available in the EnviroDIY shop page in 5-packs as soon as they a…[Read more]

I am using a Windows computer, we have tried multiple computers and USB cables. The two boards are running on previously-programmed sketches (they are two of the first that we purchased from Stroud). Lights come on the board as well as on the Sim Card piece. The switch is set to “USB/Lipo.”

Hi….so the gadget never gets a CSQ or CGATT?
It is safe to say that you are appropriately taking care of the ublox module? You’ll need to supply it with a battery or supercap as the hasty force draw is an excessive lot for the USB line to appropriately deal with, this causes a genuine voltage drop forestalling the ublox to work appropriately.

Hi all,
Sorry to be another squeaky wheel but we’re after LTE adapters too. I plan on making a purchase of 10 x Mayflies and 10 x LTE adapters as soon as these are available. Can someone please tag me with any update.
Cheers,
James -

I’m still finalizing testing of a circuit for this, parts are on order but due to supply and shipping delays, I don’t have them yet. Hopefully I’ll have something to report next week.

Hello @shicks ~ I’m just following up on this as I’m respinning my Modbus Board https://github.com/neilh10/SensorModbusMaster/blob/release1/hardware/knh002-MayflyWingShield/rev6/knh002r6_rs485schematic.pdf
to have a SDI-12 interface, and your board got me thinking .
The Mayfly socket has +5V and +3.3V and the board can have the boosted +12…[Read more]

Hi all,
I am planning to deploy a network of Mayfly stations to better understand where and when contaminants are mobilised within a catchment. I am working on a base set of sensors that consists of a decagon CTD, and a turbidity sensor (probably YOSEMITECH).
The catchment feeds into a highly valued estuary which has become degraded due to…[Read more]

Just wanted to let the folks at Stroud know that I did finally get the Mayfly up and running and I was getting the data set directly to the Monitor My Watershed site. Thank you all for all of your help I couldn’t have done it without you! Now all I have to do is install it. It’s going on the Lackawanna River and is being co-located with the USGS…[Read more]

Yes, you can buy the small case separately, in ABS plastic either with a clear lid or an opaque lid: search the internet for RP1095 or RP1095C and you’ll find multiple vendors.
There’s also a new version with mounting flange feet if you’re planning to mount the case somewhere where having the flange would be helpful. Those are model RP1095BF a…[Read more]

Hello @shicks thanks for the response. I was thinking partly of the SDI-12 specification modules driving 5V back into the 3.3V ports. The Insitu LT500 that I’ve been using does respond to Mayfly driving it on 3.3V, but then drives back SDI12 specified 5V which has to be mitigated.
Do you see any issues with the level shifter and the port…[Read more]

The Arduino IDE 2.0 is still a beta release and is so new that we haven’t done extensive testing to make sure all our EnviroDIY-related instructions, libraries, and sketches work perfectly. So I would recommend you use the regular release of version 1.8.13 (available here: https://www.arduino.cc/en/software) instead of the beta version.

We’ve encountered a few SDI12 sensors that are more picky about the data line voltage being actually 5v instead of 3.3v, and when sensor excitation line needs 9v or 12v, then we definitely need something between the Mayfly and the sensor. I’ve hand-built a bunch of little adapter boards (see attached photo) for those sensors, using a BSS138,…[Read more]
