@ayalavinay, @james-dareboprc-govt-nz: Just a heads up that a new version (v0.12) of Monitor My Watershed has just been pushed from staging to production (at ~13:15 EST today). Please look for a release post here on EnviroDIY.org in the next day or two from @aufdenkampe outlining improvements to the data portal.

Hi @aufdenkampe,
That’s really good news. Yes I was reading through some historical issues on git-hub about problems with the Polou step-up module and inability to set brush intervals. My 511-A seems to be functioning well so I’m assuming the Polou step-up issue is also solved.
One quick question, In your view, is the 511-A worth the extra…[Read more]

Hi @shicks. Thank you. I was considering pogo pins. I assume you just solder them in and push the adapter board down to test? I guess I could also solder female headers into the wingshield holes and males into the adapter boards. This would allow me to test each adapter board on one rig, and I could just solder the male headers into new wing…[Read more]

Thanks @aufdenkampe – really appreciate that update, and all of the hard work by you and the team to fix and document these issues!
Note that the lost data appears to extend beyond May 7th, with very large data gaps each day from the 8th through 12th. The images attached below show these data gaps for 3 of our sites, with the UTC timestamp when…[Read more]

Thanks @neilh20. I will definitely be interested in these when they are available.
@aufdenkampe do you have any feedback about YOSEMITECH turbidity sensors? My questions are:
1) Are they as reliable as other turbidity sensors, i.e. do they drift more readily, or provide strange values? For $510USD (non-wiper) or $680USD (wiper), they seem…[Read more]

Shannon Hicks replied to the topic Problems with OBS3+ in the forum Environmental Sensors 3 years, 7 months ago
Those sensors use Modbus RS485 protocol to communicate with a host device, which the Mayfly logger can’t do natively do with its current hardware, so you’ll need to add either an aftermarket RS485-to-TTL interface board, or build one like Anthony (@aufdenkampe) has done. He, and a few other people on the forum, have deployed some Yosemitech…[Read more]

I’m looking to access Mayfly data from MonitorMW.org for the development of a simple web application to display the current reading of a variable. If there exists a CORS friendly access method for MMW station site data, please let me know.
Barring that option, I’ve looked through the documentation as to modifying DRWI_LTE.ino in order to publish…[Read more]

BrianJastram replied to the topic Rain Gauge Tip Data Without Rain in the forum Mayfly Data Logger 4 years ago
Shannon, great job moving the science forward. It seems like your line of experimentation could lead to a simpler way to count rain gauge tips and transmit the data to MMW possibly without using a ProTrinket. Maybe if a tip happens while a cellular transmission is happening the transmission could be interrupted, the tip could be counted, and then…[Read more]

I’m guessing you’ve made one of these: https://github.com/EnviroDIY/TippingBucketRainCounter
I’ve edited the code that makes it work with ModularSensors, but I haven’t ever built one. Sorry.

I’ve got 5 solar powered Mayflys deployed with ProTrinket tip counters connected to heated and non heated rain gauges reporting their data to MMW via Digi XBee3 – RF TXRX Cell 4G LTE AT&T Verison – XB3-C-A2-UT-001 modems. These deployments range in length from 2-14 months. Within the past few months two of these setups have started reporting tips…[Read more]

Hi,
Has anyone purchased Yosemitech sensors recently? If so, from where? I’m hoping there may be a US source, as I’ve heard it’s tough to get them at the moment because they’re subject to export tariffs. @aufdenkampe?
Thank you!

Great news, @aufdenkampe! Thanks to you and your team.
I ran a test overnight, with a Mayfly sampling every 5 minutes. Out of 179 samples sent to MMW, only one received Response Code 504, at 04:30 MST, Aug 7th. All other POST messages received successful response codes (201). The 04:30 point did not get saved to the MMW database. What I’ve…[Read more]

@aufdenkampe, I’m sure that the Tagolas did better when it was new. You can’t really tell in my picture, but all of my bigger antennas are sort-of crumpled from being dragged back and forth in my backpack and getting shuffled around on my desk.
Most cellular antennas are very wide band or ultra wide band – they cover a lot of frequencies. An…[Read more]

@aufdenkampe – any thoughts?
Postman automatically tacks on more standard http headers than I include in the post from ModularSensors. I wonder if one of them is making a difference. In PostMan after making a request you can click the “Headers” tab and you’ll see 8 or 9 “temporary” headers that it used in addition to your token header. M…[Read more]

That example sketch should still work, but for anything new I would recommend you switch to using the ModularSensors library to send data to the…[Read more]

Sara Damiano replied to the topic Battery Power Options in the forum Mayfly Data Logger 5 years, 8 months ago
Hopefully @aufdenkampe will confirm but I think he went the USB route mainly to avoid power losses in the step down. If you go that way you probably need a relatively expensive 12V to USB to make sure you are getting less loss than the built in step down.
-
Sara Damiano replied to the topic Battery Power Options in the forum Mayfly Data Logger 5 years, 8 months ago
Depending on the version of the Mayfly you have, there’s a 12V power input that you can step down and use. If I remember correctly, though, @aufdenkampe once told me he’d had smoother power and less loss using a separate 12V to USB step down and powering the Mayfly via the USB port.
Unfortunately, though, with either option you would still need…[Read more]
