Hi Everyone!
Has anyone used a Mayfly to do any state logging? As in, using the Mayfly to trigger other sensors, or devices depending on monitored variables?
Or, having a Mayfly at the end of the line of a state-logger and data sent via the MMW route?-Evan

Hey Everyone
Has anyone else noticed an issue with MMW? It seems that no data is being saved, as plotting is unavailable. Though, the most recent measurements seem legitimate.
I looked at some other stations, and the data issue is reflected there as well.Is this the best place for this post? Is there another forum that MMW talk fits…[Read more]

Hi Neil!
Once I realized that I wanted more information than just the presence of water alone, and that reasonable measurements are possible for cheap, I placed the EC sensor on the back burner, for now. At least until my head is above water.
I do intend on coming back to this, pending demand. Right now, I am having a lot of fun with an optical…[Read more] -

Hi Matt
Any opportunity to extend the coaxial line?
I have thought about this issue, and planned to try one of these:

I had some issues with Python when switching to PlatformIO from the Arduino IDE.
I had an older version of python installed, so I thought I would be slick and update before installing Visual Code and the PlatfromIO plugin. That is where I messed up and PlatformIO was pissed.
What alleviated my issues were completely uninstalling all python and…[Read more] -

I am happy to report that everything seems to be working!
Sara, the program you provided didn’t seem to do anything? It compiles fine and is accepted by the board, but there doesn’t seem to be output? But, I did do what you suggested in letting it just sit there and let it attempt to connect.
I set modem.connectInternet(960000L) (16min) and set my…[Read more] -

Hi Sara,
Thanks a lot, this seems like the right direction.
After adding those flags, I am seeing a lot of:
+CREG: 0,2
OK
Which, by your notes, means I have no connection. This is great because it is keeping with the theme, I like the consistency.I adjusted the time the board to allow the modem to squawk before timing out up to 10 minutes, and…[Read more]

I heard back from Digi tech support and heard the same. I cant use the Mayfly as the middle man, Digi’s own dev board is another $70…is it expected that anyone who wants to use an XBee to also pick up a $70 protoboard to troubleshoot?
Hmmm, thats a good point about the modem not being totally spent, ill verify that it still spits out that info…[Read more]

Ive tried to connect to my modem via XCTU, and from what it is telling me, there is not an active bootloader on the module. Great!
It states that it cannot find a radio module on the selected port, the only device plugged into my machine. After failing to locate the radio, it prompts me with the option to use a recovery tool, when it then tells me…[Read more] -

Hi Shannon, thanks for responding!
I have registered my SIM with Hologram and the antenna is securely connected. You mentioned somewhere to be careful about the ufl connectors on the antenna coax line, and youre not kidding, smallest coaxial Ive seen.
It could totally be where I am working, though I receive LTE on my cell so I assumed the modem…[Read more]

<p class=”crayon-selected”>Hello
After some frustration in trying to log data to ThingSpeak, I decided to give logging to MMW a shot since I have everything. I am happy to report that I have gotten further into the process, but not quite all the way yet…
Setup:
-Xbee3 LTE-M modem
-LTE Adapter
-LTE Antenna, connected to the cell jack
-LTE…[Read more] -

Hi Shannon
I am not opposed to MMW at all, I had intended to use it from the beginning. I am familiar with Matlab and liked that its embedded, and if I go telemetric with my loggers, my funding will only allow for 4 loggers, so that worked out.
I am finding that there is a lot that is new to me trying to get online, so progress has been slow. I…[Read more]

Hi Jim
Thanks for your response. I’ve got a decent logger program using the Mayfly that saves everything to a microSD, thanks to the resources here. But you’re right…why should I have to go alllll the way to the sensor site to see my data?
I’ve done some looking into the LoRaWAN myself, if my sites were closer to one another, I would’ve for…[Read more] -

Hello Everyone,
I’m starting work towards logging data to ThingSpeak, and I’m wondering if anyone else has had any luck with this recently? I have found many discussions regarding logging to MMW, but little about ThingSpeak.
The process seems relatively straight forward thanks to Sara and the resources available on GitHub. I have used the Mayfly…[Read more]

Because my original goal is not to measure conductivity, but presence only, I am hesitant to buy an off-the-shelf variant, and I think that it would be awesome to make my instrument.
Right now, precision is more important to me than accuracy. Though, if it seems possible and I can consistently obtain realistic values, that may change.
You’ve…[Read more]

Wow, thanks a lot for the literature, and also for the new resources. Public Lab seems to have some really good stuff and I will for sure be lurking around there.
I see that DC voltage is not recommended for use in conductivity measurements for electrochemical reasons, as well as 5v is high and is not required for successful conductivity…[Read more]

Hi neilh
Thanks a lot for your response.
Good idea with the titanium rod. How would you cut that?
Right now, I plan to use PVC to anchor the array to streambeds. I haven’t put the first one together yet, but I intend to use a coupler and end cap that will accommodate a cable gland big enough for my 5-conductor, 18awg cable. The housing for the…[Read more] - Load More
