About Me | I am a PhD student at Cornell studying reticulate evolution and polyploidization and their subsequent effects on niche divergence and speciation in the aquatic lycophyte genus Isoetes. Fine scale characterization of aquatic niches presents several unique problems to researchers and often requires relatively comprehensive, highly localized measurement of environmental variables over fairly long periods of time. To this end, I am interested in developing cheap, lightweight environmental data loggers that can easily be transported from one site to another and left for periods of up to a year in up to 3 meters of water. More generally, I’m interested in getting better at coding (my experience to this point has been almost entirely in Python) and would like to find new and exciting ways to incorporate DIY electronics platforms such as the Arduino and Raspberry Pi into biological research. |
