@shicks I’m also going to be adding an air temperature sensor that has a 12-volt fan in the radiation shield. The fan can run at lower power by using pulse width modulation. I’m wondering if there might be a way to accomplish this with the power relay, since the fan will have to be connected directly to the battery like the heaters on my other…[Read more]

@shicks I wanted to run by what my thought process is with these relays and some of the questions I have now that I have purchased a few. I think my questions are general enough that you should be able to help me with them. I am looking to connect the Seeed relay to the D10-D11 grove terminal on the Mayfly. This would connect the relay’s SIG pin…[Read more]

Yes, the Stroud Center has a Campbell Scientific phycocyanin sensor deployed on a Mayfly Data Logger. @shicks might be able to share code with you.

@shicks this is something I am still struggling with, and I am having hard time figuring out. I’ve added some pictures with some of the data I’ve been collecting. It seems that the logger is picking up that there is some diurnal cycle happening, but the values seem to not match what I would expect, or they can be wildly all over the place. If I…[Read more]

@shicks surely the issue isn’t how long it lasts – it will always run out of power at some point, or even worse batteries loose capacity, what was working decays – the issue is how to reliably recover when it has run out of available mA. ?
The reliable bit – as in all engineering – is to add a buffer for real world component variations and t…[Read more]

@shicks I agree it would be good to see the software. For my systems I look to have it last 14days before it reaches 3.8V and it is a difficult target unless its being tested for and the time taken on the radio is also characterized.
I see the issue is how to keep the sensor readings delivered reliably while there is enough power, and then when…[Read more]

Hi @shicks, just received two Mayfly 1.1 and noticed they are rev1.1B – just wondering what the differences are from rev1.1A? 🙂
I did pull the circuit diagram from https://www.envirodiy.org/mayfly/hardware/ however the resolution is so low, its not all readable. Just wondering if there is a pdf version. 🙂
I also checked…[Read more]

Awesome. The XBee module is an RF module, the XBee Pro S3B. I just remembered, while the apogee sensors I am using don’t require power to make measurements, they do require power for the internal heater. The pyrgeometer heaters, according to the datasheet, draw 15.4 mA and 185 mW at 12 VDC. The pyranometers draw 30.8 mA and 370s mW at 12 VDC. In…[Read more]

Sedhead started the topic Mayfly sketch compiles, seems to upload, but doesn't in the forum Mayfly Data Logger 1 years, 4 months ago
I am using VSCode and Platformio to upload sketches to my Mayfly boards. The sketches compiled and uploaded fine two weeks ago. Today, when I went to deploy the sensors, the code compiled fine and it even looked like it uploaded fine, except that the upload was way too fast. Usually there is a bit of a lag as the code is being written to the…[Read more]

Sedhead started the topic Get MMW data in real time? in the forum Monitor My Watershed 1 years, 6 months ago
Is it possible to get data from an MMW sensor in real time from the website, not by downloading the data as a .csv? I’m looking for a way to grab data from some sensors and then plot them on a custom web app for our university.
Thanks!

I think I found the answer by emailing support@rexV, since I got it from amazon.com Mar.2022 it wasn’t certified for Verizon.
This can be checked https://opendevelopment.verizonwireless.com/activation-troubleshooting
support@RexV said “RevX does not certify devices for use on M2M/IoT rate plans, rather the manufacturer registers the IMEI with…[Read more]

Thanks for your reply, and apologies for not replying sooner. My replies to your message are in bold:

Hi @shicks and @srgdamiano. You’re not going to believe it but the addition of the build flag below has fixed my problem, at least for the Gen2 sensors.

I am certain it is this build flag and not the voltage pin (previously set to 5v) because I uploaded my script prior to switching the voltage pin over and it su…[Read more]

@shicks, would you mind publishing your Y-511a + Gen 2 Hydros21 CTD code so I can ensure I haven’t done anything wrong on that front?
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,
This problem has been causing me trouble for nearly a year, but it has become unworkable with installation of Gen2 Meter CTD sensors.
My problem: Meter CTD (SDI12) and Yosemitech 511-a Turbidity (MODBUS) sensors seem to interfere with each other causing the CTD to sporadically drop out return -9999 values. This only occurred at some…[Read more]

If you sensor is in water that is deep enough so that ice doesn’t form around the sensor itself then you should be ok. If ice forms around a sensor itself that can be a problem. The Meter Group Hydros21 CTD sensors have pressure transducers that can break if ice forms around the sensor. The new model CTD seems to have a pressure transducer th…[Read more]

@mbarney, do you know if the REVX plan/sim card you had success with is the CATM version (50mb for $5) or the 4G version (10 mb for &12)? With the new modems I have not been able to register on the network (cereg 0,3) using the 4G plan and sim that worked for a couple years with the old xbee modem.
