There is currently an issue with the Hologram cellular network that is used with most of the EnviroDIY stations with cellular modules.  The network problem is preventing all Mayfly logger stations with Hologram SIM cards from being able to send data to the Monitor My Watershed data portal.  Hologram is aware of the issue and apparently has fixed the root cause, but other connectivity issue are still preventing service from returning to normal.  They expect it to be fully recovered later in the day. You can read more about it here:  https://status.hologram.io/

If you have a cellular-enabled EnviroDIY station and have notice that it has not sent any data to Monitor My Watershed since yesterday afternoon, there’s nothing you need to do right now other than to wait for service to be repaired.  Once service is restored, your station will appear online with the latest new data.  Old data that was collected since it dropped offline yesterday afternoon will not appear online, however that data was recorded to the microSD memory card on the logger board.  If you want to retrieve that memory card at a later date, you can manually upload the logger data file to Monitor My Watershed and the website will use that file to fill in the gaps in the online database.

You should also check the battery level of your station once it’s back online.  The loggers are programmed to try connecting to the cellular network for up to 2 minutes each time a sample is taken (usually every 5 minutes).  Normally stations only transmit for about 15 seconds, so being awake and transmitting for 2 minutes for the past day may have strained weak batteries to the point of being too low to easily recharge themselves with the solar panel, especially this time of year with the diminishing sunlight levels and still thick tree canopy.  So if your station doesn’t come back online once the rest of the network is up and all the other stations on Monitor My Watershed are online, you will likely need to visit your station to restart it (cycle the power switch) and then see if it operates normally. If not, you’ll likely need to replace the battery with a charged one to get things back to proper operational levels (newly charged batteries are around 4.2 volts, Mayfly boards will operate down to 3.55v, and then won’t transmit below that).

It appears that the Hologram service interruption has been fixed and almost all of the cellular stations on Monitor My Watershed have returned to normal operation.  If any stations don’t rejoin the network by later today, it might require a field visit to cycle the power or possibly replace the battery.

Rather than create a new forum post for this issue, I’ll just add to this thread from last summer.

Today (January 22, 2024) there has been a widespread nationwide (USA) cellular network outage that has been affecting users of all the major wireless carriers, including the ones used by Hologram (the company that most of the EnviroDIY stations use).   The network has been down for about 5 hours, so logger stations aren’t able to connect to MonitorMyWatershed to upload their data.  There’s nothing that stations owners can do until the outage is resolved by the phone companies.  Once everything is back online, station owners could retrieve the memory card from their stations if they wanted to see any data that was recorded to the memory cards but wasn’t transmitted to the website.
